AB 1482 Rent Cap Historical Data: 5%+ CPI 2019 to 2024 for Sacramento (Copy)

Annual Rent Adjustment Maximum Allowable Increases for the Sacramento region since the law was passed are as follows:

Maximum Rent Increase Effective Period
8.5% September 12, 2019 – January 13, 2020
8.3% January 14, 2020 – June 30, 2020
6.0% July 1, 2020 – June 30, 2021
9% July 1, 2021 – June 30, 2022
10% July 1, 2022 – June 30, 2023
9.2% July 1, 2023 – June 30, 2024
8.8% Effective July 1, 2024

Exceptions for no fault request to vacate

For Owner Occupancy Reason:

  • This is not permitted when there is a vacant unit on the property;

  • The notice must contain the name and relationship to the owner of the new family member moving in;

  • The new family member occupant must move in within 90 days and remain in possession for 12 months; and

    • If not, the unit goes back to the tenant at the same rent and should be reimbursed for moving costs.

For Sustantial Renovation Reason:

  • Renovation work needs to be disclosed with expected duration of a minimum of 30 days;

  • Explain why the work can not be performed with the tenant in place;

  • Tenant being displaced is allowed to view permit, architectural drawings, work plans and/or bid details;

  • Tenant should be offered up to one months’ moving expenses to help with relocation costs; and

  • If interested, Tenant could re-occupy if feasible a the conclusion of renovations.
